Ask yourself: How would it make you feel to be given an internal initiative that will help your organization grow?
Ans: Pretty good, right? You feel trusted, important, and valued.
Now, after you worked long and hard and produced a great result that you know is sound, and will pay huge dividends in advancing the growth of your organization, your leaders take your work and chop it up to their liking. Essentially, putting their finger prints on it.
How would you feel now? Defeated? Frustrated? No motivation to offer your efforts in the future? Exactly!
When leaders try to empower and trust their people, only to pull back on that empowerment, they crush motivation and morale to a greater degree than having not trusted and empowered in the first place.
What is the answer to this dilemma? Leadership development.
If you struggle with trusting your people and empowering them to operate with the best interests if the company in mind, it is not a people issue, it is a leadership issue.
Everyone has growing to do as a leader; even the best leaders are not done growing.
If you want to improve as a leader, find a coach, mentor, or even a group that meets and commits sharing ideas and growing together.
